Front Garden Makeover: Golden Gravel, Paved Path & Sleeper Planter, Stone

Your front garden is the first thing people see, and it’s often the part of the garden that gets the least love. For this front garden makeover in Stone, we swapped a hard-to-maintain lawn for a smart, low-maintenance gravel garden with a new paved pathway, crisp edging and a feature sleeper planter.

Before

Front garden lawn in Stone before the makeover

What we did

  • Removed the lawn: excavated and cleared 45m² of lawn
  • Golden gravel: replaced the lawn with 20mm golden gravel for a bright, low-maintenance finish
  • New edging: took out the old block edging and replaced it
  • Paved pathway: laid a new paved pathway with a timber sleeper border along one side
  • Neat boundary: fitted concrete bullnose edging along the side dividing the garden from the neighbour’s lawn
  • Feature planter: built a sleeper planter in the centre of the gravel area to add height and greenery

Why gravel for a front garden?

  • No mowing. A front lawn needs regular cutting just to look tidy. Gravel doesn’t.
  • Kerb appeal. Golden gravel with clean edges looks smart all year round.
  • Good drainage. Rainwater soaks through gravel instead of running off.
