This customer in Trentham wanted to extend their existing patio with a curved natural stone patio, and replace an old stone wall by the greenhouse with a new sleeper bed and retaining wall.
The curved patio
We laid 20m² of natural stone paving in a four-size mix, chosen to match the customer’s existing paving. The curve was the customer’s own idea, and it gives the garden a softer shape than a standard square patio.
To make the new patio look like it had always been there, we took up and relaid some of the existing slabs where the two areas meet, so the joining pattern runs on seamlessly rather than stopping at a straight line.
The sleeper bed and retaining wall
We removed an old stone wall and replaced it with green treated timber sleepers. They form a raised bed of around 2m x 1m, which then continues around the greenhouse as a sleeper retaining wall to hold back the higher ground.
