Nothing beats a proper lawn. We lay new turf in Stone and across Staffordshire, whether you want to replace a tired, patchy lawn or create a brand new one, and we can combine it with paving, decking and planting as part of a bigger garden project.
How we lay new turf
A good lawn starts with good soil. We clear the old grass, weeds and roots, bring in fresh topsoil where needed, level the ground and then lay the new turf tight together so the joins disappear.
On one front garden we used 20 tonnes of topsoil under a hard-wearing “stadium” turf to give it a good nutritional bed. We also added Black Ice decorative stone, a slate fascia and slate stepping stones to match the porch.
Turf or artificial grass?
- Choose real turf if you want a natural lawn, don’t mind mowing, and want to spend less up front.

When is the best time to lay new turf?
Spring and autumn are ideal, because the ground is moist and it’s not too hot. We avoid laying turf on frozen or waterlogged ground.
How do I look after new turf?
Water it well, especially in dry weather, and keep foot traffic off it for the first couple of weeks while the roots take hold.
Can you take away the old lawn?
Yes. Clearing the old grass, weeds and roots is part of the job, so the new turf goes down on a clean, level base.
